School & Work: Addressing barriers in the young adult labor market (Community Service Society)

Please join CSS and JobsFirstNYC for a presentation and panel discussion of our recent report, Barriers to Entry: Fewer Out-of-School and Out-of-Work Young Adults, As Warning Signs Emerge.

Our joint study finds that compared to five years ago, New York City is home to far fewer young adults who are neither in school nor work. But those who have been able to re-connect to work have only been able to do so through low-paying, part-time jobs. And increases in school enrollment are accompanied by a rise in college non-completion.

We will discuss how New York City can take advantage of improvements in the out-of-school, out-of-work young adult population while addressing new challenges.

The event will feature:

  • Lazar Treschan, Director of Youth Policy at the Community Service Society of New York
  • Kevin Stump, Vice President of Policy, Communications, and In-School Practice at JobsFirstNYC

Young Invincibles Impact Fellows respond to the research

Panel discussion moderated by Jarrett Murphy, Executive Editor of City Limits

  • Monique Miles, Director of the Opportunity Youth Incentive Fund and the Deputy Director of the Aspen Forum for Community Solutions at the Aspen Institute
  • Marjorie Parker, President and CEO of JobsFirstNYC
  • Jen Mishory, Senior Fellow at the Century Foundation
